Wal-Mart to boot newspaper racks from storefronts |

Wal-Mart is beginning to order newspapers to remove newspaper racks from in front of its stores.
A spot check of publishers found that some South Carolina newspapers have already gotten the order. The Lexington County Chronicle in the Midlands and the Horry Independent on the coast were both told within the last two weeks to remove their racks. |

Raleigh's N&O offers buyouts to 200 |

Facing rising costs for gas and newsprint, plus declining ad revenue, The News and Observer Publishing Co. offered voluntary buyouts to some employees April 28.
The newspaper will offer buyouts to about 200 workers, but only a small percentage is expected to accept the deal and depart the company May 23, publisher Orage Quarles III said. The final number won't be known for a few weeks. |

FOI Booklet
The
new updated Public Official's Guide to Compliance with South
Carolina's Freedom of Information Act is available now. The
latest revision includes exemptions relating to security matters
and the required release of financial incentives offered to industries.
Editors
are encouraged to buy booklets for their staffs and for members
of local councils and school boards. The new booklet was edited
by FOI Chairman John Shurr and SCPA attorney Jay Bender. Booklets
